Military History

Group Leader – Malcolm Perks
Meet:  2:00 pm, 1st Wednesday of each month

This thriving Group meets in the room behind the Cottage Museum, which has full disabled access and facilities.  An interest in any aspect of military history, ancient or modern, qualifies you to be a member.  You don’t have to be an expert, just interested.

John Chester of the Western Front Association gave a recent talk on “The Heroines of Pervyse”.  This was a most intriguing story of two British women who in the First World War were actually in the front line with the Belgian Army from 1914 to 1918 and were both awarded the British Military Medal as well as Belgian honours.  One even ended up a Baroness!

Subjects for our meetings are suggested from within the Group.  We use outside speakers or volunteers from within the Group, or members just suggest an idea so we can locate and use relevant recorded material in the form of DVDs, videos and the internet.  We also have outside visits - the Holocaust Centre near Newark and Metheringham Airfield are examples from 2014.

We have 14 members and room for more.  Do join us!
